What is NLP?

The name, Neuro Linguistic Programming, originated in California and was developed in the 1970s by Richard Bandler and John Grinder. Their work centred around the reproduction of excellence in those they admired. NLP can be looked at as a toolkit that contains the various elements that make up this process of 'modelling'.

Neuro refers to our thinking patterns, Linguistic to our use of language (internal and external), and Programming to the ways in which we are wired and the resulting strategies that we use in our personal and professional lives.

NLP can have remarkable effects in terms of tapping into resources that we didn't even know we had, thus creating meaningful options in life. For example, it can be used to:

  • Clarify direction and achieve life goals

  • Improve confidence

  • Enhance communication and relationships with others

  • Change unwanted patterns of behaviour

  • Achieve excellence

  • Improve observation skills

  • Help deal with stress, anxiety, panic and phobias

  • Improve health and fitness
